Great post! I am astonished at the nerve of these people, but find it completely hilarious that the presence of 'Doris' is a sign that the brand has hit the right note with the launch!
It seems like the only thing left is to display the 'wanted' posters and let those parish mags go without their reviews of the latest products ;)
Maybe they should have some actual security, not necessarily on the door (could be intimidating for genuine guests!) but just in the background. I doubt the cheese straw guy would stay for long in confronted with two hulk-like security blokes!
But be honest, I can't be the only person reading this and thinking 'oooh, how tempting!' I'd love to go to some of these bashes but obviously, being a 'civilian' I don't. (Hey, it's OK, I get to try out skis instead.)
This is outrageous but the truth is these people are all over the place. I had a couple gatecrash my wedding party last year and we only realised when we were watching the party video as they were all over it. I guess some people will do anything for freebies, be it food and drink or products and vouchers.
I totally know who 'Doris' is and have even tried to Google her but it must be a fake name as some ancient actress comes up on Google instead. i'm v tempted to get a sneaky pic of her next time and get it into a blog post...
We had people trying to bunk in to our launch party. Very entertaining. I thought I was brazen but this lot have a completely different set of balls. They bank on people being too polite/concerned to throw them out.
I don't have a problem with this and thus would like to offer my services accordingly. :)
Crusty, fat, big belly etc. not a nice way to describe people. I am afraid you have finally lost a reader of several years here BBB. Very dissapointing
Ah, should say that gatecrashing people's private events, such as funerals, weddings etc is totally in bad taste. I was thinking of big launches from e.g. Mac, Clinique, Guerlain etc. and how nice it would be, getting to see all the new things first.
Anon: sorry you feel offended but I'm afraid he was both. Fat on free food and crusty with cheese straw crumbs all down his front. I think I am allowed some descriptive license on my own blog. And no, I have no issues with other people's weight - but in this instance, I told it exactly how I saw it.
I had to smile at the 'young female PRs' not being expected to deal with these people, who as you say are effectively stealing. As a Saturday Girl of 17 I was expected to follow suspected shoplifters out of the shop and down the street asking them nicely to return to the shop so that the Manager could chase after us....The one time this really happened the guy who was way taller than me turned out to have previous...not for stealing but GBH!
We've just been 'Dorised' at our Christmas press day! Thanks to BBB we were onto her from the offset. She was true to form: asked for champagne, had run out of her own business cards, was this time working for 'New World Media' which is based in Asia and is known at Downing Street...... We said we didn't have any goody bags at which point she then got quite nasty. She said she was going to tell her other journalist friends that it wasn't worth coming as you don't get a goody bag. We are therefore hoping she was referring to the ligger guys mentioned above!
We have checked and she's listed in the Diary under Freelancers - we've let The Diary know.

Even worse than this - there are people who gatecrash funerals for free food and drink, and they sound remarkably similar.
