Wonderful post. As an expat im in two minds about the Olympics. I mean I am kinda sad to be missing all the emotion and atmosphere of London, which obviously ramps up around any huge event. But I have also heard so much negative stuff about the impact of it all. However watching the opening ceremony on tv I was kinda proud of London and homesick for the not so little city.

The opening ceremony was amazing last night- watched it in a bar in Clapham and everyone was so happy and excited for it. Love being in London for something so amazing! X

Bravo to the Brits for starting off the games with a spectacular show! Loved it here in the former colonies! Of course something so huge is going to be intrusive, but it is the first Olympics in ages that has made me really want to be there - of course, I"m a city girl and Anglophile! Hope it all continues to go smoothly!

I'm actually finding the Olympics isn't making too much difference in terms of transport. I get the District out past Earl's Court in rush hour every day and it's no more crowded than it ever is. Even Stratford didn't look too busy when I went through today!

Oh I miss Blackheath! I wish I'd watched the Opening Ceremony with a picnic and bottle of rose on the heath. I probably would be a bit miffed when the dog ran off for the crisps the next morning though - but only because I love the heath so much and would be sad to see it covered in rubbish. I'm very excited about the Olympics - it was exciting to be there on Wednesday and see all the London 2012 cars whizzing past.

I live in Greenwich Area as well, and as you said, the closed roads, difficult to park and etc, doesnt kill the amazing atmosphere about the games, I wish the weather helps!
