I've been to Japan in November and became frantic when I went to their cosmetics stores which are full of crazy, cute, really good quality, sometimes scary stuff. In case you're interested, and not afraid to use Google Translate, I wrote 2 very detailed posts on my observation of Japanese beauty, from hygiene to make-up, skincare and haircare.
Have you tried putting the packet the sheet mask is in, in a basin of warm water? Warms the mask up so it's not cold :-) I got a load of them from SaSa when I was in HK last year, I love them.. No huge life changing benefits to my skin, they basically just make my skin soft, but that's about all I get from a normal mask too..
I love sheet masks; I've had much more luck with them than cream masks. My one issue is that none of them ever fit my face: usually they're too big in some areas and too small in others, so I end up cutting and sticking to cover gaps!
Sheet masks have always struck me as more emollient than usual creamy ones, but that may be because when I was buying them I made sure they didn't have alcohol in them (or had it very low down in the ingredients list). Maybe check the ingredients on your masks and see? Many of the widely-available sheet masks in Japan had alcohol in them.
For the Japanese masks: look for the word エタノール (ethanol) in the 成分 (ingredients) section. I can't help with the Holika Holika though as that's Korean.
(Also, if you want to try a new one out, I'd like to recommend the Mandom Barrier Repair masks)
Oh, I'm a sucker for Asian beauty products. The packaging is insanely cute and from what I've tried and heard, they're quite good too! Especially brands like My Beauty Diary and Etude House. Have you tried BB Creams?
Hi, thought I'd let you know just in case you were unaware that I think 2 out of the 4brands shown with pictures isn't actually Japanese..? Lol im not sure if you know already but since the post is called Japanese Beauty..bc i think it would be strange to see a post titled British beauty items then have Chanel products on it or vice versa lol EtudeHouse isn't Japanese for sure, and I think HolikaHolika also might not be, not 100%sure since they are a relatively new brand..thought Id let you know just in case you didn't! Sorry if you knew already!

I must get a Mini me fragrance. My daughter collects the Harajuku Lovers ones and I know these would be just as loved.
I've never got anything from Japan but I've used products from China and they worked really well.
I've heard about the stick on face masks which I'm DESPERATE to try! Those 3D ones look pretty interesting..
I'm planning a trip to Tokyo next month...the list is looong....

Hi, as anon mentioned, Etude House and Holika Holika is Korean. But the My Beauty Diary brand mentioned by migrainemidge is actually Taiwanese.
