I found it very superficial also; much preferred the 'best of' that Allure used to do when they had panels testing specific panels, and I find the Beauty Bible stuff more helpful too.
So agree with you about this and your previous posting when you had talked about bloggers getting a hard time. I am off this week on leave and have bought some glossies to browse. Nothing to read, no up to date make up or even a reasonable review of the top price items they are pushing us to buy.I love these things as much as anyone else but want to know if they work or if the colour is rubbish and its people like you who aren't chained to advertising I'm prepared to listen to.
.....and two of the choices for best organic brand aren't even organic - ren and nude. Neither brand pretends to be and yet once again the press confuse the issue and list them as organic.
I complete this survey every year and agree. Its all about rewarding companies who advertise with them. Instyle is now a totally pointless list- the same products win every year and sometimes the same brand wins best foundation, concealer etc.
I completely agree with you about the drop down menu. people are also very lazy and likely to click anything if they don't have a proper opionion. There are also some amazing products out there that are not made by one of the bigger multi national brands. However it is good to see some smaller niche brands such a Wei and Oskia in the Best New brand/product category, who don't advertise, being recognised. I really hope they win!
Hi I know you wrote about this ages ago but I have just seen the results and it makes me so angry! Firstly, Best New Brand was won by Dr Nick Lowe - um didn't he launch in 2006? That is not what I call a new brand! Secondly, The Best Natural Brand was originally called Best Organic Brand, so therefore no one would have votted for the great natural brands. And thirdly, wasn't the overall winner the actual Sponsor....Clinique...!!

The whole thing is just one big waste of time then surely...when will magazines wise up?!?!
The only point I can see is getting free mascara...possibly...and some kind of publicity for Clinique?
