I read an awful lot of blogs and don't usually leave comments but that was a great post. Thanks.

Great post Jane and very informative. I have wondered about freelance writing. Personally I'm not sure I possess the natural skill for short editorial posts though (I waffle too much sometimes lol)

Really great post, with some very helpful advice.
I definitely found taking the time to research the publication/site you wish to write for helps. Not only with making sure you direct your requests to the right people but also get the tone right.

Thanks for this Jane... I've been a freelance writer for quite a while, but would love to up the percentage of beauty writing and ultimately focus on that full time. You've really given me some food for thought, thank you xx

I live in the US and adore reading your posts because your site is just what I am looking for with regards to beauty and cosmetic products. Many of the US based beauty blogs are not as informative and clever as yours. I look forward to reading your site each day.

I always found it amusing how many beauty writers just happened to fall into the field unplanned, usually from a journalism degree. This post was informative and can be applied to alot of other areas. Truly enjoy this blog.

I have absolutely no interest in becoming a beauty writer (I'm not even that interested in make up or skin care) but I love reading your blog and especially this post, it is well written and upfront. I love your honesty about not having a degree or A levels, just shows that passion and commitment goes a long way.

The great thing about the modern era is that you can make a full-time income just through blogging. You don't need to write for a magazine or website in order to make money. I know a few bloggers who probably make more money from advertising and promoting products as an affiliate on their blog than many freelance beauty writers.
