Ah and I know exactly which list you called! Interesting and good for you as I was really struggling to understand how they reached their conclusions!

I think the only way to accurately rank blogs would be for every blog to add some sort of code into their HTML to access the amount of page views. That information would all go to the same place to be accessed on a bigger scale by a special programme and the ranks updated every...week or so? Until somebody comes up with that, I can't see how any blog rank lists are even vaguely accurate.

Personally, i am not interested in the competitive nature that these lists encourage. I write about what interests me and of course i want to continue to improve my blog, but my aim is not to push anyone else out of my way or be 'better' than this blogger or that blogger.

If this is the way that these lists are going to be compiled then in future the majority of the 'top tens' will be those blogs that are marketed the best, which is not an accurate reflection of the quality of their content.

The only way these rankings will ever be accurate is to assess a number of factors that a reader looks for in a blog, which can only be done via communication with the readers themselves.

And rant over :)

I understand your concern but I personally don't care about such lists and read only those blogs that I like even if only 10 other people are reading them. And I will never read something I don't like even if they have million unique visitors. x

I thought these things worked by key words? So people who search for content and then end up on your site would rank you higher. SEO works in that way so hits on a website isn’t necessarily going to make it feature highly but links to that website from other sources will. I’m not sure if this does not in the same way for blogs though.

I generally don’t know if blog readers care about the rank of the blogs they enjoy to read but I suppose these lists are always good ways of finding new content when there is so much out there.

Looking forward to your next post!
